Clearwater International advises Bergman Clinics on its acquisition of Ziekenhuis Gelderse Vallei

Clearwater International has advised Bergman Clinics, the market-leading chain of focus clinics in the Netherlands, on the acquisition of Ziekenhuis Gelderse Vallei’s (ZGV) eye care activities.

Bergman Clinics operates 22 clinics, with a workforce of 600 employees and 100 medical specialists. The majority of treatments are covered by health insurance. The company is a service-oriented and innovative provider of elective medical care, in the areas of appearance and skin care, movement care, eye care, women’s care, and internal care.

ZGV, located in Ede in the Netherlands, is a general hospital with 180 medical specialists and 2,650 employees, within close reach of 260,000 local people. It provides a wide range of general and specialist clinical care across 34 medical disciplines, as well as a base for medical education and training. In 2012, ZGV generated a turnover of €182m.

Bergman Clinics relocated its existing eye care activities in Velp, formerly known as Ozon eye clinic, to a new state-of-the-art eye clinic in Ede, to which it adds ZGV’s eye care activities. This acquisition is an important step in the development of Bergman Clinics’ eye care division and aims to further expand its network of eye care clinics in the coming years. ZGV and Bergman Clinics will co-operate to secure eye care services for people in the ZGV region. The carve-out of eye care activities is also an important step in the transformation of the Dutch healthcare landscape.
