Follow the start of Clearwater’s community centre development in South Africa with Footprints Foundation

Clearwater International is delighted to be supporting the Footprints Foundation, a charity that aims to improve the lives of young and elderly people in communities, currently focused on South Africa. Clearwater is funding and lining up volunteers to go out and provide hands-on help in the completion of a new community centre. This ‘Khaya’ centre, situated in the township of Orange Farm, Johannesburg, will be completed in October 2019 and will act as a medical, educational and feeding centre for the local community.

Ahead of this visit, Richard Ellis, Associate Director, has recently returned from a recce of the area, seeing the site which our team will help transform. The existing derelict building structure will be knocked down and a multipurpose facility built, from scratch, in its place. Seeing other Khaya centres on the trip built by Footprints Foundation, Richard witnessed the real difference that this new centre will make to the community, commenting ”it was a real eye opener seeing the poverty that exists in these areas but also the significant positive impact projects, like the one we are helping with, have on the local communities”. In addition to helping with the centre, this project will also see an upgrade of a family run food outlet, with a better structure directly helping the family who are already installed on the site.

Clearwater took the opportunity of Richard’s visit to share generous clothing donations from both Next and Morrisons, and also items from Clearwater staff, which were very gratefully received by local mums for their children. The Clearwater team also raised funds in time for this visit which are being used to purchase food supplies to feed over 500 children. The efforts don’t stop there either. Clearwater has set up a JustGiving page, for the team to carry on fundraising between now and the project build phase. Members of the team have already committed to a number of events including a 10k run, a 10 mile barefoot walk and the Coast to Coast cycle challenge.

We look forward to welcoming the Clearwater volunteers in October to the area and completing what will be a wonderful new Khaya centre for the local community.”
