Clearwater International advises Italmobiliare Investment Holding on its investment in Officina Profumo Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella

Clearwater International has advised Italmobiliare Investment Holding (Italmobiliare) on its investment in Officina Profumo Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella, a premium perfume and cosmetics company.

Officina Profumo Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella, which originated from what is believed to be the oldest pharmaceutical laboratory in Europe founded by Dominican friars in Florence in 1612, is characterised by an iconic brand with a unique global heritage. In 2019 the company achieved a consolidated proforma turnover of more than €31m with an EBITDA margin of almost 50%. The company’s products are developed in a plant on the outskirts of Florence and are sold in over 300 stores worldwide with 61% of sales made in the EMEA region, 18% in the United States, whilst the remaining 21% comes from Asia.

Italmobiliare is an Italian investment company listed on the Milan Stock Exchange and represents a strategic partner for the business’ entrepreneurs given its role as a medium to long-term investor, with a particular focus on premium Italian businesses.

The €40m investment in Officina Profumo Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella includes an acquisition of 20% of the company’s capital by Italmobiliare and the possibility of subsequently increasing its shareholding.

Italmobiliare aims to support the long-term growth of Officina Profumo Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella, including the expansion of the distribution network through various channels to further enhance the brand in international markets, where premium cosmetics and personal care products are achieving substantial growth rates.
