Clearwater International advises LISAqua on its €4.9m fundraising to support the development of innovative industrial tools

Clearwater International has advised LISAqua, a low-impact and sustainable aquaculture start-up, on its €2.6m fundraising to support the development of innovative industrial tools. This capital increase completes a non-dilutive financing of €2.3m from Bpifrance and the banks Crédit Maritime Grand Ouest and CIC Ouest.

Founded in 2018 by Charlotte Schoelinck, a doctor in marine biology, Caroline Madoc, an engineer from Mines de Paris and Gabriel Boneu, an entrepreneur from HEC Paris, the deep tech start-up with 15 employees aims to revolutionise aquaculture with its low environmental impact production system.

LISAqua has developed “permaquaculture”, a patented co-culture technology combining prawns, micro-organisms, and marine invertebrates in closed-circuit indoor aquaculture farms. Since 2019, the company has been marketing the first fresh, local, environmentally friendly gambas, guaranteed “triple zero”: zero antibiotics, zero kilometres travelled, and zero polluting emissions in France.

LISAqua has carried out a €2.6m capital increase with the support of Le Gouessant agricultural cooperative and a pool of investors including the historical shareholders.

After three years of research and development, the financing operation will enable LISAqua to build the first prawn farm in France. This 2,000m2 facility based in Saint-Herblain will produce ten tonnes of prawns per year for fishmongers across the Nantes area.
