Clearwater International recently published the results of its 2023 ‘Your Say’ colleague engagement survey, with over 350 team members from 16 offices across Europe invited to share their views.

These surveys allow Clearwater to benchmark its colleagues’ experiences against a cohort of business services and professional services firms. It is an important measure to understand the experiences and feeling of the team, as flagged by Julian Brown, CEO of Clearwater International:

“We are a people business at heart, and we strongly believe that we provide a differentiated working environment for our people, which in turn enables them to achieve the best outcomes for our clients. But it’s important to fact-check this belief by asking the team directly about their views and experiences of working at Clearwater - what we are doing well and where we need to improve.”

Trust forms the bedrock of how the business operates and Liz Knight, Head of Talent at Clearwater International, reflected on the company’s strong position in this space:

“At a time when trust in many organisations has diminished, the related score in this area is particularly promising. 91% of responders maintained that they have trust in their local leadership, which outperforms the benchmark norm by a very significant 37%.”

95% of team members said they would recommend Clearwater as a great place to work

Also of note were the improvements on the previous results. Clearwater is one of the last remaining independent corporate finance houses and key to this is retaining an entrepreneurial spirit of continual improvement across the business. The ethos permeates the company-wide culture, ensuring everyone continually pushes forward, whether to achieve the best working environment for our people or the best outcomes for our clients. Not only did Clearwater outperform the benchmark across 70% of the survey questions, it also improved its results on 76% of the questions since the last survey was undertaken.

Liz Knight also reflected on a key focus for the business currently, and the impact this was having on the team:

“Particularly promising is the progress made in the area of DE&I. Corporate finance as a sector is not synonymous with diversity, so it is very encouraging that the current focus being placed here is having a positive impact, something that is being felt by the team.”

A really stand-out key statistic is that 95% of surveyed team members said they would recommend Clearwater as a great place to work. In today’s competitive marketplace, there is no better testimonial regarding a company’s culture than from those team members who are at the sharp end of activity, all day, every day.

As always with this type of survey, there will be development areas to work on, something that Clearwater is happy not to shy away from and was reinforced by Julian Brown:

“We are delighted by the strong participation and overall positive results, which support our initial belief that we have clear positive differentiation from our competitors in the way we engage with and treat our people. And now that they have taken the time and effort to provide us with feedback, we are fully committed to acting upon it to make Clearwater an even better place to work.”
