Clearwater International has advised Maileg on its sale to Scope and Metric

Clearwater International has advised the design company, Maileg, on its sale to a consortium consisting of the Nordic private equity firm, Scope Capital, and the pan-European private capital group, Metric Capital Partners.

Founded in 1999 by Dorthe and Erik Mailil, Maileg is the brand behind a comprehensive universe of complementary quality products. Dorthe Mailil is the main designer behind the products in the range including toys, interior decoration, lifestyle products, and the iconic stuffed mice. The company distributes its products in high-end lifestyle and design stores worldwide, in addition to its own webshop. The brand has achieved particular success and status in the US, supported by comprehensive brand communities on social media.

Maileg is based on the vision of creating modern Scandinavian designs that inspire imaginative and adventurous play in an endless tasteful universe, creating its iconic designs from a sustainability perspective, where every product has a long lifecycle. With time, Maileg’s iconic mice family has even achieved collectable status amongst adults, with the high demand opening a secondary market where the popular mice are traded between collectors.

Scope Capital is a Nordic private equity firm investing in a portfolio of strong international scalable brands with innovative business models, that create relevant and sustainable value for consumers. Metric Capital Partners is a pan-European private capital group, providing both equity and debt to mid-sized companies across different geographies and industries.

The partnership between Maileg and the consortium will support Maileg’s journey from being a strong design company with a primary presence in Europe and the US, to becoming a worldwide universe of design products with global direct-to-consumer availability, and an increased focus on organisational development.
