The Clearwater International team take on charity challenges for Footprints Foundation

Individuals and teams across the UK offices of Clearwater International have been keen to participate in additional fundraising opportunities, following the firm’s significant donation to its main CSR project for 2019 with Footprints Foundation.

With a number of operational projects currently taking place in South Africa, Footprints was set up to support the improvement of peoples’ lives throughout the world, providing support through volunteering and hands-on help, rather than solely providing financial support.

The foundation aims to nurture the skills and qualities of young people through learning opportunities; improve the quality of life for elderly people who may feel excluded from the wider community; and help those people suffering with major, or life limiting illness, by supporting them and their families through difficult times. Following project leader Richard Ellis’s visit to the site near Johannesburg in April, the team on the ground have been progressing Clearwater International’s community centre development project. This involves converting a derelict building into a medical centre and library on an existing Footprints site, Khaya Centre 3, which is currently home to a school for young children. The new medical centre and library will predominantly be used by the children attending the school but it will also provide facilities for others in the wider community.

The team has really taken the cause to their hearts, with fundraising activities including:

  • The London team taking part in the JP Morgan Corporate Challenge, a 5.6km run;
  • The Birmingham team organising a charity cake and samosa sale;
  • Partner Chris Smith completing a 24 hour running relay;
  • Junior PA Catherine Jones completing the Manchester 10k and a 10 mile barefoot walk across Morecambe Bay;
  • Senior Associate – Deal Origination Sam Beard completing the Trans Pennine Trail – a 230 mile bike ride;
  • Senior Marketing Manager Nari Singh running a half marathon;
  • Office Manager Anthea Vidler taking the initiative to request clothing and food donations from retailers and supermarkets, with significant donations received from Next and Morrisons.

Members of the team will visit South Africa for a week in October to complete the building project and provide hands-on volunteering support at other Footprints projects which have an incredible positive impact on the local community.
